Social Networking And Traffic Generation

by Chris Imamshah
Social Networking, as of now, is still relatively new, at least as far as being a tool for generating website traffic. That is soon going to change…in a big way.

Everyone is beginning to learn, if they do not already know, that networking and socializing on the internet are becoming more and more crucial to online success. Since the internet is so impersonal (no face to face interaction) just by virtue of what it is, it has become critical that website / business owners “virtually socialize” via the various means available today, and more and more are becoming available. I think I hear of one or two new social networks coming online almost every other day now.

I am sure you have also noticed the wave of videos on the internet now and I do not mean just the funny videos you see on YouTube or elsewhere but the many that website owners put out. Again that adds to the recognizability of the person and makes the interaction with them more personable. You get a feeling of knowing them and that is what it is all about.

Social networking is now more a means for people to interact on a much more personal level than was possible before. Social communities abound now and offer the opportunity to develop relationships with customers, future customers, peers and much more. They can be quite addictive also as they are a lot of fun to be a part of. Be careful of the time factor as you could waste a lot of time in these communities also and let go of what you’re supposed to be focusing on.

How great is it that you can now interact with people and, in doing so generate traffic for your website. As with all ways to generate traffic you must be prepared to offer useful content that people are looking for or needing to improve some area of their lives. My coach and mentor always says that Content = Traffic, however it is key to have relevant content which will drive targeted traffic to your website. This is what will help to make your business a success.

With these social networking sites it is important to just be “you”, not somebody else. This is a basic yet important element for the success of using these forums to develop relationships. People like to do business with people so do not hide behind your business’s name or pretend to be someone that you are not. While the internet is and seems huge, mistakes like this will usually be discovered and could ruin all of your efforts.

Using social sites is beneficial for a number of reasons. It allows you to get your name out there and become recognizable. It is highly recommended that you put an actual picture of yourself, where possible, as this simply makes you more relatable rather than some generic picture / avatar that the site provides. It obviously also makes you more recognizable.

Whether you have your own products or promote someone else’s products as an affiliate, it is acceptable and good to include your promotions in your networking efforts.

You are hoping to gain the trust of and build relationships with people. It is very important that you participate actively in these communities so that you become known and build your credibility as an expert in your field. It is basically the same thing that is done by blogging.

Personally, until I found out about the social communities I thought that Blogging was the only way online to interact with others, except for forums. As a blogger you can learn from your blog visitor’s comments about their concerns and questions and needs. Some marketers have actually got ideas for products from this. People helping people, a great phenomenon don’t you think?
Other suggested ways of social networking are posting in different forums and making comments on blogs yourself.

Wishing you success and fun as you explore the social networking communities out there on the internet. Perhaps our paths will also cross at one of these communities.
