Tired of seeing clicks that are paying your $0.05? There is something you can do about it.

If you’re wondering why Google is only paying you $0.05 a click, you should not need to look much further than the content on your web page. Remember, your revenue is a part of the amount advertisers are willing to pay for respective keywords. The money they are willing to pay is based strictly on the amount they feel confident to earn from the sale of their product. For example, topics such as prom dresses are more likely to receive $0.05 clicks than for a topic like life insurance. The reason is simple: the price of the products associated with those keywords dictates the amount advertisers will pay. The profits on car insurance can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month, depending on the agreement. One sale could bring the firm several tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the agreement. How much profit is in prom dresses?

Another tip to consider is that if you focus on keywords that involve the terms “cheap”, “free”, or “inexpensive” products, it’s highly unlikely the ads that appear will furnish you with the best paying ads. Remember, if the advertiser is selling an item respective that is “cheap”, “free”, or “inexpensive” it’s unlikely they are bidding very highly on their keywords. So, what options are left for you?

While I will touch on how the layout of your site can impact your adsense revenue, let’s look at your content - namely what we will call your money pages. So what exactly are your money pages?

In the easiest of terms, your money pages are those where you believe your hopes for higher paying ads are greatly improved over other pages. So while you may focus your traffic generating strategy on long tail keywords for example, its your money pages where you aim to either make a sale, or, get the visitor to click on an ad. What topics are related to your main topic that target higher paying products? A bit of research and you can easily find products that an advertiser will pay more for.

If your site is on cooking, what products do you use to cook with? Is there some type of gizmo you use to help prepare your food? Cutlery, bake ware and cookware all payout larger amounts than items found in a recipe for cheesecake.

What if your site is about newborn babies? Every mom and dad wants to make sure that they are providing the proper care for their new additions. How they made sure their financial plan has been adjusted to provide insurance coverage for the family? What about college savings? Retirement funds? What about clothes?

If your site is on wedding favors, look into a couple of articles covering higher end wedding favors. While most wedding favor sites cover the topic of shoddy wedding favors, what about the demographic who isn’t concerned about the cost of their wedding? Is there not a certain type of wedding favor for the higher end of income earners that you could speak to? While the number of clicks may be lower, their payout wills more than make up for it.

Think about the advertisers when thinking about your money pages. Is there an item that they sell for a higher dollar value that your visitors may be interested in?

If you are getting only $0.05 a click, most often than not, it’s your content.

The Google Adsense Makes Sense

You won’t find any Adsense ads on my website.

Yes, I’ve read about the apparent ‘death of Adsense’ and my inbox has been stuffed with claims and counter claims about the value of this product or that strategy. . But that is not the reason.

You see, I am a writer. I love nothing more than to research and write material on the area of my passion. In fact I have devoted my life to that very thing. Other than a bit of housework and meal preparation in support of my hardworking life- partner, my time is spent online researching and writing my own material. I am very proud of the material I have produced and offer in the form of articles and e-books on my website.

Once I have attracted a visitor to my site, why on earth would I want them to suddenly leave and go who knows where? At least if they clicked on an affiliate link I have something of an advantage for two reasons: (a) I have chosen where the visitor will go when they leave my site and (b) I could receive some income if they purchase the product or service on the site to which I am an affiliate.

With Adsense, the most likely place my hard-earned visitor would end up would be my direct competitor! That’s like owning a Pizza restaurant and advertising the local Chicken Take-Away in my establishment. Yet, that is in effect, the type of thing I would be doing if I displayed Adsense on my site. Yes, it might make sense to Google to provide contextual advertising. It would probably even make sense to the advertiser (otherwise why would they do it). But it makes no sense to me.

I write because I believe I have something worthwhile to say. I believe, in all honesty, there are a lot of people who would benefit from hearing what I have to say. . I also believe that laborers are worthy of their hire, so yes, I offer some of my material for sale. I put my material before people. If they like what they see, if it fills a need in their life at that particular moment in time, they may buy. If they don’t like what they see, that’s okay. But the last thing I want is for them to rush in and out of my ‘store’ because their attention has been grabbed by my competitor who I allow to stand in the entrance to my place of business for the purpose of diverting my customers across to his ‘store’. Will they come back to me? I don’t really know, but I sure as heck would rather it didn’t happen in the first place.

On the other hand, I recognize that I am something of a crusader. My site is not there specifically for me to make money, although the income is appreciated. If I was only interested in making money (and it seems, if you believe everything you read you either make millions or you make zero when you are in business on the Internet. There is, apparently, no middle ground) then I could provide the mega-store approach and offer you anything and everything your heart desires.

I heard recently of one entrepreneur who has 75000 websites! Apparently the content on those sites is so unappealing that he makes tens of thousands of dollars each month from Adsense alone. To that I say ‘Great. I trust he enjoys his money’ I choose to journey along a road apparently less traveled. What I lose out on in the area of financial gain, I certainly make up for in satisfaction of achieving my life’s goal and a career path that I honestly love. There’s not much more I could ask for.

Most webmasters know that Adsense generates a sizeable source of additional advertising income. That is why most of them use it to go after high paying keywords.

They have with them the lists that tell what the keywords are and have already used various methods of identifying them. And yet, after putting up these supposed-to-be high paying keywords into their pages, the money they expected to come rolling in is not really coming in.

What is it that they are doing wrong?

Having the pages is with the proper keywords is one thing. But driving visitors to those pages is another matter and often the factor that is lacking.

The thing is, to get visitors to your high paying keyword pages, you need to optimize your site navigation.

Stop for a moment and think about how visitors are using your website. After a visitor has landed on a certain page, they have the tendency to click on another page that sounds interesting. They get there because of the other links that appears on a page that they initially landed on. This is site navigation. It is all about enabling visitors to move about your site. And one way of maximizing your Adsense earnings.

A typical website have menu links on each page. The wording on these links is what grabs a visitor’s attention and gets them to click on one of the links that will take them to another page of that website. Links that have “free” or “download” are often times good attention-grabbers.

This navigation logic can also be applied to driving traffic to your high paying pages. There are some websites that are getting a lot of traffic from search engines, but have low earnings. Come up with a catchy description for that link. Come up with a catchy and unique description for the link. Think of something that people do not get to see everyday. You can also use graphics to grab your readers attention. There is no limitation to what you can do to make your link noticeable. If you are after the success of your site, you will do everything it takes just to achieve that goal.

Just be creative. As far as many Adsense advertisers are concerned, there are no written and unwritten laws to follow regarding what they write. Just as long as you do not overstep the guidelines of the search engines, then go for it.

Also remember that it is all about location, location and location. Once the perfect attention grabbing description has been achieved, you have to identify the perfect spot on your page to position that descriptive link to your high paying page.

There is nothing wrong with visiting other websites to see how they are going about maximizing their site navigation. “Hot pages” or “Most read” lists are very common and overly used already. Get to know the ones that many websites are using and do not try to imitate them.

Another way of doing it is to try and use different texts on different pages. That way you will see the ones that work and what does not. Try to mix things around also. Put links on top and sometimes on the bottom too. This is how you go about testing which ones get more clicks and which ones are being ignored.

Since its introduction in 2003, the Google Adsense program has greatly help bloggers defray hosting charges and other costs related to running blogs. How It Works

Blog publishers get paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser. This is done through a combination of a pay per click (PPC) and pay per impression basis. If a page isn’t significant enough, a blog publisher doesn’t get paid as much. There is no charge for the blog publisher to join Adsense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in Adwords.

How Much Money It Makes

The amount of money you (blog publisher) can expect from Google Adsense depends upon several factors. If your blog draws tons of traffic and you focus on a particular niche, Google will serve ads that appeal to visitors of your site. For instance, if you maintain a popular blog devoted to portable media player, you can make a windfall because of the high level of competition for related keywords. Rates for competitive keywords can exceed $1 which impacts your blogs earning potential. Conversely, if you are in a less competitive niche, you get occasional traffic only, thus less visitors click on your ads which equates to less money earned.

How much each advertisement pays per generated click is also another important factor. Each Adsense ad is not worth the same. An ad may give you ten cents while another may give you $1 per click. It depends on the demand for that kind of ad. If a number of advertisers are bidding for the same advertising space, the advertiser offering the most per click will get their ad displayed first.

Ad formats and placements influence revenue. Placing ads on the right part of the blog page is significant so that visitors looking at your page will see the ad, at the same time it will be not be overly intrusive to put visitors off.

Fundamentally though, it is all about content. To make money from Adsense, you have to know what your visitors are looking for. It may be information on a topic, a product they want to buy or a service they want to avail of and entertainment. Offering visitors good content will generate highly relevant ads which in turn will draw more clicks on the ads displayed. To optimize content, the same basic rules for search engine optimization apply.

Google doesn’t publish the percentage it takes as a commission and only displays what the blog owner receives in member reports. However, you can make a rough estimate. The average click through rate (CTR) for online advertising is generally around 0.5 to 1%. CTR is the rate at which visitors click an advertisement usually calculated as a percentage of ad impressions (number of times a specific ad has been displayed). What each click pays is dependent on the content and keywords that are generating the ads being served.

Although Google doesn’t release the amount it pays for keywords, you can sign up as an advertiser on top of being a participant in the Adsense program for $5 and see for yourself how much advertisers are paying Google for various click through. For example, a thousand page views with Google ads on them per day, at 1% click through rate and 25 cents per click will yield $2.50 per day. Not a lot but it can cover hosting fees or service fees.
