Google AdWords - How Keywords Relate To Relevancy

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 5:11 pm

by Frank J. Rumbauskas Jr.
Using the Google AdWords system can bring the perfect type of traffic to your website. Studies have shown that AdWords advertising has a conversion rate up to 10x greater than organic or natural traffic. It is this conversion rate that makes pay-per-click advertising and AdWords in particular such a powerful tool.

One of the keys to optimizing your Google AdWords campaign is the relevancy of the keywords that you use. There are a number of types of search phrases that might be included in your AdWords campaign. These phrases will determine how your advertisement is triggered.

As an example we will be selling products related to the phrase “leadership training.” Let’s imagine that our product is a DVD video course teaching leadership skills.

1.) Broad Match: leadership training

With this type of match the keyword or phrase is entered into AdWords without quotation marks or brackets. Any search that includes the keyword in any form will trigger the advertisement.

Example:

boy scout master training and community leadership

This phrase would trigger the ad because it has both “leadership” and “training” in the search phrase, but might not be the perfect solution for the search. Broad match keywords can result in greater click through rates but fewer sales.

2.) Phrase Match: “leadership training”

A phrase match is entered by placing quotation marks around the keyword or phrase. In this case the ad would only be activated if a users search contains the phrase in the specified order.

Example:

boy scout master training and community leadership would not trigger the ad, but leadership training for boy scout masters in the community would.

3.) Exact Match: [leadership training]

To enter an exact match phrase in AdWords the phrase is surrounded by brackets. In this case a user would have to search for the exact phrase in order to trigger the advertisement.

The different keyword variations will give you the ability to control the quantity and quality of your traffic. Broad match keywords might generate larger amounts of traffic but cost you money in the long run because they are so general. Phrase match keywords allow you to narrow the scope of your target audience. Exact match keywords allow you to zero in on a target market. They all have their place in your Google AdWords campaign and you should use them all.

Using different types of keyword variations gives you the ability to control how and when your ad is presented. Broad match keywords will trigger the ad when the keyword is placed in a search phrase in any combination. Phrase match keywords will only trigger your ad when the phrase appears in the search in order. Exact match keywords will only activate the ad when the exact phrase is searched.

Google AdWords is a powerful tool and can increase the quality of your site traffic immensely. To take advantage of the system you need to understand how it works and how to make it work for you.

Google AdWords - How To Tame The Fire-Breathing Dragon

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 4:11 pm

by Frank J. Rumbauskas Jr.
Google AdWords is a fire breathing-dragon that cannot be tamed! Well, at least that is what many internet marketing professionals think. Today we are going to teach you how to slap a muzzle on that puppy and make it heel.

Most people who start out in the internet marketing business begin on a shoestring budget and fear pay-per-click advertising programs like Google AdWords. They are afraid that they will spend too much money on advertising with little or no return on their investment. This is a legitimate fear and we have all felt it but some of the best traffic that you will ever get will come from an AdWords campaign. All you have to do is understand the program and how to make it work for you.

The first thing that you need to understand is how the Google AdWords ranking system works.

There are a number of factors taken into consideration when Google determines the ranking for an advertisement.

1.) Maximum Bid Price

This is the thing that scares many people when it comes to running an AdWords campaign. In most pay-per-click programs this bid is the deciding factor when determining the placement of your ad. In those programs the highest bid gets the highest spot. Not so with Google AdWords. There are other factors taken into consideration in determining placement.

2.) Relevancy

Weight is given to relevancy by AdWords. If one ad is more relevant to the search input it may appear in a higher position.

3.) Click Through Rate (CTR)

Google AdWords records the CTR for your keywords, groups, and phrases from the day you begin using the system. The historical CTR of your campaign can affect both ad placement and cost. A high CTR can result in higher ad placement and at a lower cost.

This is the biggest challenge for new users. When you first begin using AdWords you will have a historical CTR of ZERO. This presents a problem but there are ways to improve your CTR score such as using keyword macros and other techniques.

4.) Quality Score

This is very important for all internet marketers. There are a number of factors taken into account when determining your quality score. These are click through rate, relevance of ad text, historical keyword performance, and the landing page.

Yes, your landing page can have an impact on your quality score. Google says “Your landing page must be true to what your ad copy promises.” If you ad copy promises a free report then your landing page must have an open download link. In the eyes of Google free means just that …free, not in exchange for a name and email address. Avoid using the word “free” in your ad copy if you are sending visitors to a squeeze page that requires that they submit their name and email address.

Google AdWords is not the mythical fire-breathing beast that it appears to be once you understand how it works. Understanding the AdWords ranking system is the just the first step in turning the dragon into a house pet.

The Power in Signature Advertising

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 3:11 pm

by S McIntyre
Back when I first started online I didn’t know how important and effective signature advertising would be. I was told by the experts it was a good way to get exposure and a good place to put it would be in your email signature. They mentioned the possible viral effect you would get from a single forwarded message.

I took their advice and attached a signature to my personal email address so whenever I forwarded or sent an email, people would see it and if they forwarded it? It made perfect sense to me. I received an email that was too good to not share and I forwarded it to my friends. Before I knew what hit me, I was blasted for forwarding an email for the sole intention of soliciting or as she put it “some sort of propaganda.”

WOW!

I didn’t know if I was happy, angry or shocked by her accusations. I sent the email for what it was and nothing more. My email signature was neither elaborate, misleading nor threatening; there wasn’t even a call to action. It was a simple two-liner that piqued her interest and she clicked it.

I realized the experts who told me this knew exactly what they were talking about and they were dead on. Their point was proven that signature advertising is potent and effective.

Fast forward to today and signature advertising is still going strong and yet people are still underestimating the power of signature advertising. On forums when people ask how to get free traffic to their business or website, the signature file is always missing. This is one of the very first things to do when you join a forum is to create a signature file. Some forums don’t allow this, but more often than not it is encouraged.

I’ve had people who registered on my forum and told me they found me through my signature file on another forum. I know signature advertising works because I see it every day in my web stats.

Forums and emails aren’t the only places to add a signature file. You can add them to the end of an article you’ve written. This is considered more of a resource box or byline, but it’s somewhat the same thing. You can add a signature file if you post to discussion groups, newsgroups, in your newsletter or ezine, mail lists and even after your blog posts.

Signature advertising is highly effective and it’s free. Use it to your advantage because it is a really powerful advertising tool.

A Guide on Online Marketing and PPC

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 3:11 pm

by Caitlina Fuller
If you run a business offline and wanted to try the same business online as well and wanted to promote it by way of online marketing then you have two options. And both the options require some money and time to be spent as well.

One such option to get free advertising for your website through search engines is search engine optimization (SEO). With this method you can either do it on your own to optimize your site or to increase its ranking and thus make your site appear on the top 10 results with the keyword/keywords that has been searched. If you do it on your own you don’t have to spend money obviously but will need to spend time instead. Or you can hire a search engine optimization expert for all your online marketing campaigns.

The second method is called pay per click or PPC ads. This is nothing but, as the term suggests, an ad campaign in which you will need to pay the search engine or other online marketing sites according the clicks that is being generated and hence traffic. This way you don’t have to worry about optimization to reach the top 10 spot in the search page in a search engine. But you can reach those spot by way of this pay per click ads for the keywords you choose to let the search engine display your ad with the link to your website.

If you want to have a more permanent and result oriented and mostly free way to get traffic to your website, then search engine optimization is the best option you need to look for. Although you will need to spend some money or time initially but the rewards you get from this option of SEO is really big and mostly permanent.

But when it comes to pay per click campaigns, this would be an ideal option for those who don’t have enough time to optimize your site and want instant traffic to your website. This way you get all the traffic by way of paying money for the same and is instant and the result may vary too. This would be ideal for those run short campaigns of program or sales since the time period to promote your site would be less.

But in reality you will need to combine your online marketing in such a way that you run both SEO and PPC campaigns concurrently to the maximum and best results.

Google AdWords - Make The System Work For You

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 2:11 pm

by Frank J. Rumbauskas Jr.
Google AdWords is absolutely one of the best ways to bring targeted traffic to your website. One of the goals of any internet marketer is to generate as much traffic as possible, but not just any traffic; we want targeted traffic. We want traffic that understands that we are selling a product.

Many internet marketing professionals believe that the best forms of advertising include writing articles, joint ventures, using ad swaps, and joining product giveaway programs. Do not get me wrong, these methods all have their place in a marketing campaign and should be used when trying to build a list, but they all have one inherent problem. Much of the traffic that these types of marketing generate is of low quality and consists of people looking for a freebie. Giving away a freebie is a good thing but the bottom line is the bottom line for internet marketers.

While a Google AdWords campaign may not be free like those methods mentioned above, the cost is outweighed by the potential to generate many more paying customers. When a visitor arrives through your AdWords campaigns they are already aware that they have clicked on an advertisement and that the corresponding website will be selling a product. These people are much more likely to buy from you than those leads that are generated through other methods.

You may be using free advertising methods exclusively and they may be successful, but why wouldn’t you want to expand your market? Google AdWords is another method that can be used to bring highly targeted traffic to your site and your product line and can boost your sales.

Many internet professionals seem to be afraid of a pay-per-click campaign and I can understand that. Paying for traffic can be pretty unnerving when first diving in but there is nothing to fear. The cost involved can be managed easily. Google AdWords, unlike some of the other pay-per-click systems, allows you to set a daily spending limit, control when your ads are displayed, and how they are displayed. All of these work for you in keeping costs down.

There are many people who have taken the plunge into pay-per-click advertising and are making a fortune. How do they do it? Honestly it is not as hard as you might think. All you have to do is understand how Google AdWords works and how to make the system work for you.

There are many methods that you might use to build your list. Writing articles, classified ads, joint ventures, and giveaway sites all generate traffic. Some of this traffic may join your list and in time become a valued customer, but if you want to get your product or service in front of millions of potential customers pay-per-click advertising cannot be beaten. Learn how to make Google AdWords work for you and watch your list of paying customers grow.

Directory Submissions That Matter

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 9:11 am

by S. Housley
Links from different directories have different values. A webmaster’s time is limited, and most webmasters want to get the biggest bang for their bucks. So where should they start when it comes to directory submissions? Search engines assign value to links from the various directories differently, so how do you spend your time where it matters most?

Yahoo

Yahoo is still, to some degree, the king of directories. Whether a Yahoo directory link is worth “paying for” is still a debatable question, but there is no doubt that a link from Yahoo is worth the effort. Do not leave a Yahoo link to automated submission software — take the time to manually submit your links to the Yahoo Directory.

Yahoo Directory -http://www.yahoo.com/

DMOZ

Amazingly, it appears that DMOZ is still relevant. While some webmasters complain that DMOZ is outdated, it is apparent that a DMOZ link still matters to the larger search engines. DMOZ is a human-edited directory with different editors for each category. As such, patience is critical to obtaining a listing. Editors can become annoyed when sites are submitted multiple times, and before they’ve had the opportunity to review the quality of the content. Some editors work quicker than others, so be patient and polite, and you may get lucky with a DMOZ listing.

DMOZ - http://www.dmoz.org/

Wikipedia

A legitimate link that stays in Wikipedia is very desirable. Wikipedia is a human-edited online encyclopedia. Wikipedia links are very difficult to obtain, and even more difficult to retain. But if you build a unique quality resource on a niche subject, you might find yourself linked on a page in Wikipedia.

Wikipedia - http://www.wikipedia.com/

Major Download Websites

The major software download websites are all capable of driving traffic, and can impact a websites popularity. Make sure to manually submit your software to these three major download websites:

Download.com - http://www.download.com/
Tucows.com - http://www.tucows.com/
Softonic.com - http://www.softonic.com/

Popular Directories

The more popular the directory, the better the link is considered to be. Link popularity matters, and a link from a webpage with a high page rank (as determined by the Google Toolbar) is desirable. You can assess the general popularity and value of a directory by viewing the page rank of the webpages on a website.

Related Niche Directories

Websites that are an authority on related subject material are great sources of web traffic. Conduct very specific searches to locate popular niche directories.

Where To Find Important Directories

There are a number of resources designed to assist webmasters in finding both free and paid directories that will accept submissions. Use the following resources to boost your directory listings:

Writing effective ads for internet marketers is one of the biggest challenges they have to face. As you can see, there a lot of ads found everywhere. With the advancement of technology today, there are a lot of nice ads out there which are really encouraging and eventually found yourself purchasing the item you saw in the ad. There are actually excellent products out there but why is it only few people are using or buying them? And there are also not quite good products but most people are buying and using it. Why is that so? Does it have to do with promoting. Well, yes, making an effective ad plays an important role in marketing. It does a lot of influence to the audience. Making a product sound to the audience will bring you to success. It’s how you convince them and turn them into buyers.

If you have a good product and you can exactly define it well, you don’t need a professional writer to write effective ads to promote your product. Defining What You Do

Monday 17 November 2008 @ 8:11 am

by charen smith
Whenever I’m at large events filled with all of these people trying to hand out their business cards to everyone in sight, I’m not always given the chance to talk to as many people as I would like to. I find myself getting handed print business card after business card without uttering much of anything to the person who handed it to me.

After these events are over I have to sit down and sort through everything I was given. This means taking all of those business cards and seeing which ones I feel like keeping and which ones will get tossed in the trash.

There are two different problems I’ve come across when it comes to these cards, and the first one is a complete lack of any information on what it is the person or company does.

They have their name and company name on the card, but they give no kind of description of this company or what types of services it fulfills. A company name alone is rarely if ever enough to give me any information, nor is the company logo if the card has ones. There are plenty of companies out there with interesting, if ambiguous names. I can’t decipher what their services might be from these names.

The second thing is the people who do list a job title, but the title is so vague or hard to follow I still don’t know what it is that they do. Combing an odd company name with the generic title of Sales Associate doesn’t help me out very much, especially if I don’t know what they’re even selling.

If you’re going to get business card printing you need to be sure that your business card can stand on its own. Cards like these require me to talk to something first or I won’t know anything about the company. Sure, I could look up the company name on my own if I really wanted to. I could find out by spending my own time on it, but why should I? If you’re paying for business card printing I would hope you’d bother to get your money’s worth by making a good card.

If your company name is completely obvious, or if your specific position is important, than take the time to list what it is that you or your company does. Maybe add a description on the back of the card going over the basics. It should only take you a sentence or two to give people an overview and make sure they don’t have to search for themselves to get answers.

Before you make your next business card stop to ask yourself how self contained your card is. If everything isn’t obvious to someone who doesn’t know a thing about your company, than I would go back to the drawing board.
