Make Those Informational Pages Work for You

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 3:01 pm

by Pamela Upshur
An informational page should contain valuable, relevant content such that it can stand on its own. Informational pages really become small navigational Web sites. They discuss a particular topic in some detail; perhaps they summarize some content area of the Web site and then link users to that area of the Web site. Often, they discuss a concept or describe using the vernacular of the industry rather than that of the general public. There is absolutely no reason why this informational content can not be placed on an external domain name. When choosing a domain name for externally hosted informational pages, there is less of a requirement that the domain name be good, interesting or memorable. What is important is that the domain name contains the targeted keyword phrase.

Don’t overlook the importance of naming the files and folders after keywords, too. This strategy is best when used sparingly and worst when overused. External domains name with content-rich informational pages are a valuable and important strategy to supplement a search engine positioning program, but they are not a search engine positioning program in and of themselves. Nothing can take the place of properly optimizing the existing Web site and ensuring that all leverage is realized from your actual Web site.

An informational page that your Web site hosts internally, or even one that is hosted externally should also have links to it from the main Web site. The mistake many make when building informational pages is to make them exist as islands: Nothing links to them. They only link to destination pages. All of the major search engines now consider link popularity as a component of their ranking algorithm. If a Web site has links to resources but not from other sites, it is unlikely to attain a high ranking on any competitive keyword. If your informational page is devoid of valuable content, nobody will want to link to it. If your informational page is rich with interesting and relevant content, others will establish links to the page and your ranking will rise.

Note that simply building a Web page containing the elements above is no guarantee that your informational page will be a winner. The page must have very simple HTML and certain keyword concentrations, or weight values of your different targeted keyword phrase in order to ace the rankings.

External Domains Provide Added Traction

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 3:01 pm

by Pamela Upshur
To take advantage of this effect, you should choose to register additional domain names on which you will host your informational pages or other related Web site content. There is no reason why your Web site should be hosted on only one domain name. Think outside the box! Domain names are cheap, and you may benefit by having more than one. Informational pages aside, if you sell camping gear, hiking gear, and rafting gear, your Web site could be made up of three domain names that cover all the topics.

No matter which page your visitor enters through, the look and feel should be consistent with your other pages, and the surfer may not even notice that the domain name has changed from one section to another. You will have the benefit of an additional default or home page for each of your domains, and each area of the Web site gains the benefit of the targeted keyword appearing in the root domain.

Try to select and register domain names that include your targeted keywords. For instance, if you are targeting “whitewaterrafting” and you find that “whitewaterrafting.com” is taken, you may be able to register “white-water-rafting.com. ” Be creative! you will find a way to register a domain name with a keyword or phrase in it.

Expect that your hosting provider will not add a domain name for free. You will be looking at $25 per domain name per month, at least, even if you are only putting up static informational pages. But this additional cost is well worth if for the high rankings it may

Offset Printing: Revisited

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 3:01 pm

by charen
When you pick up a magazine or a brochure perhaps with all their vibrant color images and clear text, or choose a product from a catalog, have you ever wondered how these print items were produced?

We know that in every publication there are a number of experts and professionals involved in the creative process — from the planning, to the design, and all the way to writing the content. Whatever is produced from this creative effort, commercial printers usually turn them into printed materials that we see in our mailboxes and on racks.

These printers use different printing methods to come up with the publications we read almost everyday. And one of the most commonly used printing processes is the offset printing.

Offset printing is a printing method that transfers the inked image to a rubber blanket, and then applied to a printing surface such as your paper. Most printing companies use this method to reproduce large volumes of documents like your brochure or catalogs because it is generally less expensive than the other printing processes.

What most commercial printers do is to produce the documents in a computer, print out the drafts, and then use offset printing to generate the final result. The plates on the other hand, are produced from film or high resolution paper output.

This method is so popular because of these things:

1 — Compared to other printing methods, it usually produces high quality image consistently. Compared to letterpress printing, offset printing has sharper and cleaner graphics and pictures precisely because the rubber blanket conforms to the surface the image is being printed.

2 - Although the costs of the equipment and setting it up are quite high, the actual printing process itself is relatively cheap.

3 — Printing plates can be easily made and fast.

4 — Printing plates have longer life span compared to direct lithographic presses because the process avoids direct contact from the plate onto the printing surface.

So what are the kinds of offset printing? There’s the photo offset for one, where light-sensitive chemicals and photographic methods are used to transfer the image and text from its original form to the printing plates.

Then there’s the sheet-fed litho where offset litho printing is applied on single sheets of paper or board. This is generally used to do short runs of magazines, letter headings, brochures, and other general commercial printing.

Basically, offset printing is a very popular commercial printing method especially for high volume jobs because anyone who uses it gets to have quality materials at much lower printing costs.

Ten Tips For Finding The Right Pay Per Click Company

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 2:01 pm

by
Qualifications

Companies like Google offer certification in the form of ‘the Google Adwords Certification’. This is a document stating that the bearer is familiar with and competent regarding the way the pay per click system on Google itself works.

Testimonials

Look at the company’s testimonials… and then look them up! Far too many companies rely on completely fabricated testimonials, so don’t be fooled by a testimony written by the company itself.

Personal Reference

As almost everyone in business knows, word of mouth is one of the most efficient ways to get good work done. If you have any friends or acquaintances who have out sourced this type of work in their own firm, ask them how they felt about it, and whether or not they were satisfied. Take their warnings seriously if they give them out.

Past examples

You’ll find that all professionals have work that they are proud of, so let your consultant show you theirs. Ask them what firms they have done work for and take their work out for a spin; pretend to be a browser surfing for information on that particular topic. How quickly do you arrive at the site that your consultant worked on?

Specializations

While every good consultant in this field will know the ins and outs of the Google pay per click system, only a few will be intimately familiar with your field. Ask them if they have any interest, public or private in your field. What do they know about it? How knowledgeable are they?

Professional Demeanor

How prompt is your consultant in getting back to you? The emergence of the Internet as a legitimate field of advertising has drawn many bright people out of the shadows, but it’s drawn out some truly unfortunate specimens as well. Hold your consultant to a high level of professional behavior and if he fails, then find someone else.

Comparison Shopping

Although it might be tempting, make sure you interview more than one consultant. As you might have noticed, the market for pay per click experts on the Google search engine is quite thick, and you have a wide variety to choose from. Even if you end up going with the first candidate, it’s always good to see what the competition is like. This will also give you a good idea on what fair rates are.

Time Frame

Be wary of the company that offers fast results and then disappears. A pay per click company that offers a great deal of speed as part of its selling points is not taking the time to test them!

Commitment

Do they offer real results? There are plenty of firms that will charge you even if they have not managed to cause in increase in traffic. Take a look at the contract that your chosen pay per click firm offers and find out how certain they seem regarding their work.

Google Them!

If they are experts at using Google and they consider pay per click advertising as part of their realm of expertise, see how well they show up in terms of natural results and side bar advertisements when you search for them.

Ben Norman is the MD of UK search engine optimization company Impact Media Ltd, specialists in pay per click. Impact Media work with a wide range of businesses helping them to make more money from utilizing the search engines natural & paid search results.

Selecting a Reliable Affiliate Program is a Must!

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 2:01 pm

by JP
Reliable affiliate companies give affiliates the piece of mind needed to feel comfortable about making money using the Internet — without the fear of facing nonexistent payment. Working with a reliable and trustworthy affiliate company eases the minds of affiliates who want to back the highest level of products that ensure proper customer satisfaction. All of this will create better results regarding commission.

When looking for a hassle-free approach towards earning an income on the Web — seeking a reputable affiliate program is a must. Unfortunately, some people fall into the trap of selecting an affiliate company that possesses a less than desirable track record. This can endanger your career as an affiliate and cause you to lose out in the end. I’m not just referring to the companies who run scams looking to cheat commissions or trick you into backing a worthless product — I’m speaking on the kind of company that wastes your precious time with dead-end efforts.

Online — there are numerous affiliate programs with a shining reputation. For example, I am part of an affiliate group for several companies, including Clickbank, Commission Junction, Plug in Profit Site, Host4Profit, SFI, and Share-a-Sale. As soon as commissions are owed — I receive immediate payment from these companies. They are so reliable that I grew too lenient with my monthly receipts.

It suddenly dawned on me that a particular affiliate company that I had put my time and energy into had never given me one dime even though I was sealing many deals for a couple of months. They owed me close to $2,000. I was so upset with myself that I hadn’t kept a better eye on my receipts. This experience taught me to keep track of outstanding commissions by following a system.

I was pretty lucky with this case, as I was able to receive the full amount due to me when I emailed the owner and inquired when I was going to get paid. Almost instantaneously, I was compensated. This was a close call because I thought for sure I would have had to take a loss.

The next month — I received payment from all others except that troublesome affiliate company. It took about two to three reminders before I received payment. During the following month, when I reminded the company about sending payment, they informed me that a check was already posted in my name. I never received any check, so I waited until the old check was canceled and new payment was sent out once again.

While the check might have very well been posted, I have to tell you that this is one of the oldest methods of stalling. This incident captured my immediate attention. It started to become clear that I would have to track down my commission payments with this company on a monthly basis. My books also showed that it was taking longer as each month passed to actually receive money owed.

I’m not sure what the issue was (perhaps the owner of the company lacked organization) but I didn’t need to waste my time chasing after my payment every month. I really liked the products they offered, but I still decided to end our business relationship. It isn’t that hard to pay affiliates on time, as all the other reliable companies I worked with had no problem paying my commission on time. I didn’t even have to remind them once.

Therefore, when seeking products for promotion, always conduct a bit of research on a potential affiliate company to see what other people are saying. If a company displays a lot of complaints — look elsewhere. Plenty of reliable affiliate companies await your efforts, so you really have no need to waste time with scams.

Is This E-Book Market Blasphemy?

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 2:01 pm

by Dax Moy
Can I ask you a question?

When was the last time you walked into Amazon, Barnes and Noble or even your local bookstore to buy a book?

Was it recently?

When you were browsing around reading the book-sleeve, did an attendant run up to you and say “Quick! There’s only 2 left! Buy it before they go!”?

What about the last time you bought a book?

Did you hand over the book and the money only to find out that they’d thrown 18 other books, a CD collection, a bunch of book tokens, the author’s telephone number and a money-off voucher to Starbucks in your bag?

No?

I wonder why that is?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that it’s because bookstores generally value the works of each individual author and rely upon the fact that people are buying, say, a Stephen King novel because they actually like his work, value his craftsmanship actually WANT his book.

Nothing more, nothing less than that.

It’s funny then, that in the internet publishing world we tend to do the exact opposite.

We tell people that ‘There’s only 4 left!’ or that ‘The price will go up at midnight… I can’t guarantee the price!’ or that ‘Due to such high demand we’ll be discontinuing the book but when we bring it back it’ll be twice as expensive”.

Worse still, we sell the book itself and then bundle it with a stack of bonuses so large that it would take 2 solid months of 8 hour days to get through them.. even if they wanted to!

(I recently looked at a product that had 103 ‘bonus’ items attached to it!)

Excuse me, but this is just nuts!

I mean, seriously, what does it tell your prospect about you and your product?

1. That book is not good enough to be sold as a stand alone product.

If it were, it would be. That simple.

Borders doesn’t give you 10 books as bonuses for the simple reason that each book on its shelves MUST be good enough to be there under its own merits and, that being the case, you should pay a fair price for it.

No ifs, no buts.

2. That you’re not as confident of your materials as you should be.

If you were then you wouldn’t want to bribe me with other stuff that, in many cases, doesn’t support the primary offering.

And hey, if you’re not confident then why should I be?

3. That you don’t care whether or not I read your book.

If you really wanted me to read YOUR book and take what you’re saying seriously, why on Earth would you want to distract me with 10 or more works from other people

Seriously, in this day and age the thing that people are most short on is time.

They want to be told what to do, how to do it and why in the shortest, quickest most concise way possible.

They don’t want to read through War and Peace 10 times over from different people to figure out what they should be doing to get better abs or to lose weight.

In fact, they already get THAT kind of confusion for free on Google, so why should they pay YOU for adding even more?

4. That you want their money… BADLY!

What other message do you think people are getting when you say ‘you can have this, and this, and this, and… oh yes, and don’t forget this!’?

They’re getting the message that for you it’s all about the sale, nothing more, nothing less and that you’ll keep bribing until they say ‘yes’.

Now, the thing is, this has worked on the internet up until now but will it last?

Can it last?

Will we all find ourselves playing the ‘He with the biggest pile of bonuses wins’ game ad infinitum?

Will we see 500 bonus gift bundles in the not too distant future?

Who knows, but I hope not!

“But Dax, a lot of the ‘big boys’ have made a huge fortune this way… I want some of that”

Too true, over the years there has been some great money made from this approach but I don’t think it’ll last. I sincerely hope it doesn’t!

You see, every one of these ’super bundles’ just reinforces to the world at large that we’re not ‘real’ authors.

They believe that we’re ‘just’ e-book authors and that we’re deserving of lesser status.

And, to be honest, most of the time they’d be right!

Yes, I know that much of this is coming off as marketing blasphemy but it’s what I believe.

You may even think it’s a bit rich coming from someone who’s got e-books of his own but if you take a look at my own products you’ll see that I offer no bonuses, no bribes and no slick sales techniques.

I simply offer what I’m selling in a (hopefully) captivating way and trust that those who want my books will buy and those that don’t won’t.

Yes, there are those who make far, far larger sales than I and yes, they use the bonus method to do so but I’m certain as certain can be that those days are coming to a close.

Regardless, the question is not just ‘How many sales can I make?’ but, ‘what difference am I making when someone reads my book?’

If you’re stealing precious time from them by loading them down with 15 books instead of just 1 good one, then are you really doing them a service?

Are you really making a difference?

Internet Newbies Beware!

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 2:01 pm

by bella21
I do like to get to the point, so let me start out by telling you that “Yes, I am now happy to say I am an internet marketer”. However, I was not always so happy about it. I made some very costly mistakes when first starting out and that is the purpose for this article. If I can help anyone else avoid this, then all my trial and errors were well worth it. I simply want you to know more of what you are getting into than I did. It is enjoyable and certainly has many advantages, but the sales letters are so powerful and this is where you need to be careful and proceed with caution…

Want to make money online the fast and easy way? This is what the so called gurus promise you; not only that but, make money over night, while you sleep, works on auto pilot, it’s a miracle! Blah, blah, blah. Now let’s think about this for a moment. If you could make thousands of dollars (or even hundreds) on auto pilot overnight with ease and at low cost to you, wouldn’t everyone be doing it? Of course they would! Internet Marketing is a frenzy of lies. There is some truth, only in small amounts and scattered about here and there. There are literally thousands of products to choose from. All claiming to be the best and how they now only wish to help others.

All they ask for in return is money. Here is where you need to be very careful. Some will charge thousands, others only hundreds while convincing you that you need their service in order to make money. Then they promise you will make thousands of dollars within 3 months or so… only they cannot guarantee this, or refund your money. Products are all guaranteed, (though you should still use caution) but not coaching sessions. I have heard some of the most heart breaking stories from these scams. Make sure you do a thorough search on anyone before paying large amounts of money to them. If you only listen to me on one thing, let it be that.

I call this my new form of gambling. Yes, you can get hooked on this just like any other addiction. I should know. I have ordered tons of products, visited seminars, went to workshops, attended webinars, teleconferences, you name it. And finally, I get it! I now know what all it entails to be successful at internet marketing.

Why couldn’t any of those sales letters just tell the truth? Maybe people would get turned off right away…It is a lot of work, but I actually LOVE it! I always enjoyed writing, and I feel this provides many outlets for that and it has been a great learning experience. It’s also a great way to release your creative energy. Now I am positively convinced that all this work really will pay off.

I am making some money right now, but it took time. Sales ads never tell you this, and the money I am making is nowhere near what I expected. I mean every time I bought a product, they all guaranteed that I would be making thousands of dollars in no time at all. I actually left my job because of my belief in that! Yet, they fail to mention your advertising cost. And easy, they all say that too. It is pretty simple, but not necessarily easy to do. You should also know that it takes time. Yes, this is worth repeating. I was feeling like a failure because of this. Now I realize it is not just me, but for everyone. (Especially those of us who finished school before the computer age.) I do have intermediate skills, and still I wouldn’t say “this is so easy; if you can turn on a computer…”

This is why I set up The Scammer Alert. I began thinking, “what if I could start all over?” knowing then what I know now. I would have saved a lot of time and money for sure! However, this is where all my trial and error really can help you. I have found some products that really are truly amazing. Believe ME! I have been thru them all or just about, and now I can offer you my reviews and ratings on the ones I found to be most helpful no matter what stage of internet marketing you are in.

20 Simple Ways To Get Massive Traffic To Your Web Site

Sunday 20 January 2008 @ 2:01 pm

by
Embarking on an Internet marketing campaign doesn’t have to be difficult, tricky, or complicated. Here are a few simple ways (twenty in fact) that you can easily implement to get tons of traffic to your site right now!

1) Write articles: believe it or not this is an incredible tool for driving traffic. Well-written, relevant articles can net quite a bit of activity to your web site. Don’t forget to add your URL in your byline. Articles should be 500 to 2,000 words in length. You can send articles to sites like: Article City, Go Articles, Submit Your Articles and Ezine Articles.

2) Social bookmark *everything* - and I do mean everything - you can bookmark each page of your site and each blog entry you post. While this might seem tedious, it’s worth it. You’ll see a strong increase in traffic if you social bookmark each page on your site and each of your blog entries.

3) List yourself in the best directories — you’ll have to pay for this but since most people don’t do this (since everyone’s looking for a freebie) you could really enhance your traffic by getting a listing: dir dot yahoo dot com, business dot org, botw dot org.

4) Get yourself listed at: DMOZ dot org — it’s not easy to get listed there, but worth the effort.

5) Review: if you can review hot new products or books within your market, head on over to Amazon and start positioning yourself as an expert. In order to do this effectively you’ll want to create an Amazon profile and make sure and sign each review with a reference to your URL (your web site). You can also go to Epinions and Revoo to review products as well.

6) Offer a freebie on Craig’s List: you’ll be amazed at how much traffic you get from a single Craig’s List ad. They key here is to send people to a page on your site and make sure they have to sign up for something (like your email newsletter) before they can grab their freebie. That way you’re not just getting traffic, you’re also building your list.

7) Create a “recommended by” list on your Delicious page — you can do this by logging on and creating an account at there and then tagging articles, blogs and other content you think is important to your readership. Then offer this page as a resource site. You can add a link to this page in your email signature line or on your web site.

8) And speaking of your email signature line…do you have one? If you don’t, create one. Believe it or not, people do follow these links. You’ll be amazed how many folks read email signature lines. I have one and change it several times a year, depending on what we’re doing or promoting or what books I have coming out.

9) Lend a helping hand: you can be an answer person at Yahoo Answers — you don’t have to spend hours on there, but maybe a few minutes a week. Make sure and include a link back to your site following your answers.

10) Set up a social networking site using Facebook, Linkedin, or Squidoo. It’s free and easy to do, just don’t forget the all-important link back to your site!

11) Make sure your blog has an RSS feed so if you capture a reader you don’t lose them if they forget to bookmark your site or blog.

12) Join relevant groups at Yahoo groups. You’ll find everything from groups on growing your small business, writing books, finding your passion, even underwater basket weaving. I dare you to find one that isn’t right for what you’re promoting. When you do find the right group, join and participate as you can!

13) Podcasting is another great way to drive traffic. Start a podcast by going to Audio Acrobat. There are other programs you can use, but I love Audio Acrobat. You can record the podcast over the phone quickly and easily and then hit the “send” button on your computer once it’s recorded and the system will syndicate it to 27 podcast directories including iTunes. It’s a great way to let people know about you and your web site!

14) Start a blog and then once you do, start commenting on other people’s blogs, linking to them from your site or adding them to your blogroll.

15) Inbound links: don’t squander your time (or a perfectly good link) on smaller low-traffic sites. Instead spend your time going after high traffic, high quality sites. Good sites should have a PR (page ranking) of 4-6 depending on the market. You can find out what a site’s page ranking is by downloading the Google toolbar which comes with a PR feature built in.

16) Start an email newsletter: while it may not seem like a newsletter that you email can drive traffic to your site you’d be surprised at the effectiveness of this type of promotion. If your newsletter (like your articles) is interesting and relevant to your audience, you’ll find that it has a huge pass-through factor, meaning that it is passed from one email subscriber to another. Also, if you have an email newsletter you should never, ever go to a single event without your handy signup sheet. Yes, you can even use offline events to drive traffic to your web site.

17) And speaking of offline efforts: if you’re ever quoted in a magazine or other publication, make sure and mention your URL as it’s appropriate to the topic. Don’t be too pushy about this, but do not forget to tell folks you have a web site that may be a great resource for the topic of your interview

18) If you have products to sell, why not get a store on eBay? This site gets a tremendous amount of traffic and on your sales page you’re allowed to list your URL. It’s another great way to get an inbound link and a way for people to find you.

19) Load a video on YouTube and 57 other video sites (the rest listed on my Red Hot Internet Publicity blog).

20) While this isn’t a tip per se, it’s still important. If you’re going to go through all the trouble of getting traffic to your site, make sure your site is converting this traffic into something. Get folks to sign up for something, your newsletter, the RSS feed on your blog. Whatever it is, getting their email address will help you remarket to them when the time is right. Studies show that visitors landing on a site often don’t buy the first time. That’s ok! You want to get them into your marketing funnel so you can market to them again and again — not in a way that’s obtrusive, offensive or downright annoying, but in a way that is helping them with their own mission.

An example of this might be an email newsletter. A helpful, informative newsletter is a fantastic funnel. A blog is another great way to keep people in your marketing loop without bombarding them with “please buy my stuff” email messages. Also, make sure you know what your traffic numbers are before you launch into any Internet marketing campaign. By traffic numbers I mean how many people are visiting your site. You want to know this so you can gauge a before and after view of your marketing efforts.
