10 Steps to Profitable E-Commerce

The following steps can be used as a checklist to ensure that you have everything in place for doing business on the Internet. Once your Web site is up and running, you’ll be able to implement low-cost marketing and advertising techniques for promoting and managing your business.

1. List goals and ideas.

Determine what your goals are for using the Internet for the promotion of your business and/or selling products on the Web. Sit down with the people who are going to be helping you with your online Web site and the e-commerce part of your business so that you can go over your ideas for design, implementation, and promotion. It’s important not to discard any of your goals and ideas, no matter how silly and farfetched they seem. You want to be as creative as possible to start with, and then you can fine-tune your list by getting rid of those ideas that are not cost effective or not considered for adoption. This is a good time to do a preliminary projection of your budget, incorporating all the potential costs so that you can set realistic expectations for your Web site and online storefront. You will adjust your budget later, after you complete steps 1-4.

2. Review the products and services you intend to sell.

Things that you should be asking yourself include the following: What are the advantages and disadvantages to your business of selling or advertising online? Are you willing to accept payment online, and if so, what payment methods? What logistics will you have to consider about shipping your product, including cost, method, etc.? 3. Compare online e-commerce Web sites.

Find Web sites that are related to your business and take some time checking them out. Look at how they promote and advertise similar products or services as well as how each Web site is laid out and navigated. If a similar Web site uses a shopping cart for online purchases, try it out, stopping, of course, at the point where you’re ready to commit to a purchase. See how smoothly the process works and what can be done to improve the process. Don’t just look at e-commerce sites that are within your own country, since consumers won’t limit their shopping to those businesses where they live. Look at the way other countries handle e-commerce Web sites so that you have a broad spectrum of Web sites with which to compare yours. A wide range of experience and knowledge of how competitors operate their online businesses is valuable information that you can use to get the upper edge on competition.

4. Determine your target market.

Determine what market of consumers you want to target with your Web site. If you’re using your Web site to promote your brick-and-mortar business, decide if you’re going to be selling your products and services only locally or if you’re willing to sell outside of your immediate market area. Since the Internet is global, there are many reasons to promote your Web site to the national or global marketplace. If you’re selling your products or services online, you’ll need to decide if you’re only selling within your own country or if you’re going to be an international e-commerce company. It’s important to know who your Internet audience is going to be so that you can target them effectively. If you’re selling your products internationally, you’re going to have to be prepared for some potential language barriers.

5. Budget for your Web site.

It’s important that you have a predetermined budget for your Web site so that you can stay within the guidelines of what you can afford. This should be a written plan that you can sit down and read logistically. An online marketing plan should address search engines and techniques for improving a Web site’s visibility on the Internet.

8. Decide on a Web site structure.

Determine what you want the structure of your Web site to be like. You want to know ahead of time what you want your Web site to do and how you want to achieve that function. This is crucial to implementing your Web site design plan and integrating how you want your shopping cart to act and perform within your Web site. Careful planning should be given to designing and laving out the structure and organization of your Web site.

9. Implement online Web services.

Two words: great content.
Highly informative, well written and useful content cannot be emphasized enough. This is important to give your site respectability and make it interesting enough to go back to, refer and link with. Make the write up interesting, keyword rich and attention grabbing. Remember that you will be competing with thousands, if not, millions of other write ups out there, so make sure you stand high above the crowd.

Make the Top 10.
Lists are a favorite with many visitors, especially if they are useful, relevant and real. And you do not even have to stick to the number 10. Make it 5, 7, 12, 20, 101, just as long as the list is irresistible. Tips are some of the most popular, while resources, myths, facts and names of experts also attract a lot of attention. Target a category that is as specific as possible and you might just find your list.

Track your audience.
We are not encouraging you to be a sneaky stalker. It is just that later on your site will be attracting regular visitors, those who pick up your news, articles, press releases, etc. Take advantage of this chance and send these good people special offers on exclusive content and news. Explain that it is not offered to anyone else and that you are giving it to them because of the frequency of their visits.

Provide freebies and useful online tools.
Hold contests from your site. Competitions not only drive web traffic to your site, they also make effective link bait. You get more links if people see that your site is more than just content, ads and discussion boards.

Brew up some controversy.
When used correctly, controversy is a great tool to use for increasing high web traffic hits to your site. And by correctly, we mean being classy about creating controversy and not being a jerk. Write an article, report or blog that is reasonable enough to challenge popular notions, assumptions and beliefs. It can also be about a person, a company or an event. Get more exposure in chat rooms, forums and other blogs.

If your write up is great, it should generate enough heavy web traffic from opposing parties. Some of your web traffic may also come from people who agree with your point of view. If you’re really determined to get a template for free, a better way of doing it is to use the ones that come for free with whatever software you’re using. WordPress or Joomla, for example, has some very clean, attractive templates. However you do it, though, you have to realise that free templates will never be unique: your website will look just like hundreds of other websites out there that found the same free template you did.

Cheap Templates.

Once you start to get into the territory of paid-for templates, things start to look up. The idea behind sites that sell templates is that they can pay designers a proper rate to do something good once, and then resell it as many times as they want for a relatively low price. This lets designers be paid for as many designs as they want without ever having to deal with customers, and it lets customers buy and use the designs for a much lower price than they’d usually pay for something a lot worse — and that they can’t see in advance.

Exclusive Templates.

After realising how much some people dislike other sites being able to use their design, many template sites started selling exclusive templates — ones that are only sold once, to one website, and then taken down. They found themselves with a runaway hit on their hands.

This way, designers are free to create something great, and customers can take it if they like it or look at hundreds of alternatives if they don’t. It takes all the uncertainty and negotiation out at both ends, and leaves both the designer and the customer much happier than they would have been. Of course, if there is something small you want changed, most sites are happy to get the designer to do it for you for a small extra fee.

As you should know there are many people making a lot of money using Internet Marketing (IM).

If you know how to use IM you can too make money, because there are tons of possibilities open to everybody, but in order to profit from them you need to know how to face them, you need the right weapons and strategies.

IM is a Skyrocket commanded by a small group of persons. What I mean when I say Skyrocket is that IM is moving at a high speed and you need to be updated and informed or you’ll be the last one. But try to get the good stuff, because with all those products out there, you could get the wrong one.

With Small group of persons, I mean, there is an Inner Circle where they have created relationships and friendships, they are helping each other.

Many of these people earning a huge amount of money online are doing it selling information products, teaching how to do something, in this case they teach how to make money online.

If you are a newbie you know that you need this information to start your profitable business online, because it is very difficult to get started when you have no clue.

There is an infinity of products trying to teach the “secrets” methods you need to learn in order to be successful and the inner circle is who promotes and advertises these products. When there is this kind of relationship, it is hard to say ‘No, I don’t promote this product’ to a friend, because you’ll be out and in the black list and many doors will be closed.

The point is - for most of them, Money is the most important thing in life. It doesn’t matter if they are making millions or billions. You know, money, money and more money, business is business. The rest is not important.

You receive tons of e-mails promoting a big marketer product, from other big marketers and you say WOOOOW! It has to be great because all these people are promoting it. They use well worded sales letters, tricks and hooks like this: “Grab this immediately…before it’s gone.The clock is ticking.” They are promising the moon to induce you to buy, then you buy, because you need a good product, but you have no experience and you don’t know what really is behind the sales letter.

Then, when you test the product - What a Frustration! There is no value, you learn nothing from it and you got an useless product. You have thrown your time and money away. This makes you feel angry and frustrated.

It really drives you crazy. You get strange thoughts like this: “Were those people out there born with genius in their mind, am I different? But then you think and try to think positively no they are not! They just risk failure and are willing to continue doing it until it gets done and until it produces results!”

All these products are loaded with inaccurate information which confuses you and puts you on the wrong path.

These people creating and promoting these kind of products don’t review or personally test them, they launch them just to make a few dollars.

These people instead to help you are DAMAGING and SABOTAGING you, they are profiting from the innocents. These are the Internet Marketing Killers.

If you make the mistake to follow them, you have to pay it and you pay it spending your time going in circles. You have to open your eyes and see that there’s no magic software package, there’s no magic button.

It is very sad that IM gets a bad name just because a bunch of people are doing the impossible to make money from it and want to control it.

Don’t allow these people to kill your interest to make a living online. Maybe you are thinking: How can a little guy compete against all these people? Believe me it is possible, but you need to be at the right spot and avoid the bullets these killers are shooting you.
